Allow Users To Edit Ranges In Excel For Mac Pdf
- I protected my worksheet, except I left a few cells open to edit via the 'Allow users to edit Ranges' button. When I send this spreadsheet to others. The PC users can edit those few designated cells (good), but the mac users can't (bad). It's like the Mac version of excel is.
- In the above spreadsheet user should have access to edit the range Column A to Column H. Column I to IV users should not allow to edit any text or anything. No restriction on number of rows.

Allow Users to Edit Ranges??? The user is unable to selected the locked cell. It does not prompt the user for a p/w. Does it matter if the cells are locked and the worksheet protected? 'Dave Peterson' wrote: Once you protect the worksheet and allow ranges to be changed, anyone who tries to change one of those ranges will be prompted for a password. There's nothing you have to do special. Excel will do it for you. MarcusA wrote: I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I have a workbook with two worksheets. On the first worksheet, I have standard p/w protection with several unlocked cells. What I would like to do is grant specific users access to additional cells within the worksheet. I list my ranges, add users to the permissions list and select a password. How does the user unlock this area of the worksheet using the p/w? Secondly, trying the same process and not using a p/w does not work either. Thanks -- Dave Peterson |

Allowing users to edit ranges
You may want to give different users the permission to edit different parts of the worksheet. To do this, simply follow these steps.
1) Click on “Tools,” “Protection,” and “Allow users to edit ranges.”
![Excel Excel](https://i.stack.imgur.com/GYSGi.png)
2) Click on “New” in the dialog box.
3) Name the range in the “Title” box. Then, in the “Refers to cells” box, highlight the cells you want the given password to allow to edit. Give the range a password and select “OK.” You will be prompted to re enter the password in order to verify you entered it correctly.
4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all the ranges you want to specify for users to edit.
5) You must protect the worksheet for the passwords in the “Allow users to edit ranges” dialog box to become effective.
Now the given ranges are protected from unauthorized editing. Only those who know the password for the specific range can edit that range. To do so, they must enter the password for the range. A dialog box like the one shown below comes up when a user originally attempts to edit a protected range.
The user must enter the correct password in order to be able to edit that range of cells.
This is a very useful tool for sheets that need to have multiple people enter different data on it. This way, one person’s work will not be accidentally or intentionally altered by another person who uses the workbook for other reasons.
